Make Fire Safety First On Your List
Working on a car offers plenty of opportunities for an accidental fire. If you stay a step ahead of the game, there will be zero chance of your work area bursting into flames. Fire is no joke, check out this checklist to be sure your shop is fire safe.
Don't Bag Those Oily Rags!
You'd never guess the trouble you can get into by improperly disposing of oily or greasy rags. Repair shops burn to the ground every year when ignition of oily rags leads to a fire. Be sure you know how to properly deal with an oily rag in your home or shop

Money Saver: Before you start replacing parts, it's a good idea to check all of the mounting nuts and bolts to be sure the problem isn't being caused by simple looseness!
Symptom: Pulling to One Side While Driving
* Low or uneven tire pressure - check tire inflation.
* Uneven tire wear - check front tires for even wear and replace both front tires.
* Alignment bad - check and adjust wheel alignment.* Steering components bad - inspect tie rods and steering rack.
* Sticking brake caliper - inspect brakes for uneven wear or excessive heat. Repair as needed.
Symptom: Flip-flop wheel shimmy. Wheels seem to wander and wiggle rapidly back and forth.

Another tool you will need is a good volt/amp/ohm meter. A digital meter is ideal but you can use an analog meter as well. I have a couple of both; there are times when the good old-fashioned needle is better that a digital read out. You can get either type from an auto parts store such as NAPA or Pep Boys and electronic stores such as Radio Shack and Best Buy. A decent digital meter will run about $125.00 to $175.00. Be sure to read the manual that comes with it to be sure you are using it correctly and the readings you get are accurate.
A good set of jumper wires are good to have. You can buy them pre-made in different lengths with the clips. Personally, I make my own. I buy a package of clips that have a screw on the wire end and use wire that I have accumulated and make them to whatever length I need. These are good for bypassing a section of harness to help isolate a problem area and any testing you need to do.
